I think the impetus for that system came from the Harriers. That pilot ejection system on those, at least on the A and B versions, had a 1/2 second delay... -

They’re a search on for a F35 that the pilot ejected from. I guess it’s safe to assume it’s no longer flying around and crashed somewhere 😀...
