  • Prop change, 150 Mercury 4 stroke.

Just thinking out loud, My 150 now has 100 hours, no problem, just questions, have tried 2 aluminum props, here goes.
17p 3 blade hits rec limiter quickly, hits 37-38.
19p 3 blade has to be severely trimmed to top out at 5600 and 42+, but, the hull doesn't like much over 40 mph like scary!

16p 4 blade hits 39-40 at 5900 with decent trim.
    I cruise 3000 at 19 mph with 3.7 gph which I love!
I'm frugal when it comes to burning gas, this prop does not like much trim unless top speed desired, otherwise it's almost neutral trim.
Tucked in from hull speed to plane or slow cruise no adjustment necessary, I don't run fast so, would a Enertia 18p help with gph or just stay frugal like I am with aluminum?

Enertia at dealer is $844.00, woohoo 🎉!

Boat in water ready to cruise is 2900 lbs, I'm actually satisfied with performance and just fantasizing about options, yes, I'm pleased with this new 4 stroke and it's a strong 150, only a Rude or Merc 2 smoker would perform better with a much higher fuel burn.
Yes, it's strong yet quiet, smooth too!
Thanks in advance, my SmartCraft show 100 hours, 300 gallons!
    Woohoo 🎉

enertia 18 is too much prop
I'd be thinking enertia 16,for all the rpm, 17 for cruising.
you'll want to test drive both.
unless dealer has those props in stock your not going to see one for a while.

The Enertia will likely get better fuel economy, but you'd have to run a lot of fuel to justify just changing for fuel economy alone.

that said, a 17 Enertia would be my choice based on the speeds you've gotten so far.

But I'd be curious what specific boat it is. i may have numbers on it.

        1988 StarCraft Bluewater 180, 20 degree.
        3 piece CC.

Hull moves in rough stuff but doesn't pound, of course I don't go that fast in the rough!

        3000, 19 mph, 3.7 gph.
        3500, 24 mph,
        4000, 29
        4500, 32
        5000, 36
        5800, 39

The rpm spread increases as you go faster.
Mainly seeking opinions from the pros, very satisfied with current performance, I'm all about cruise fuel burn.

Did that $844.00 include the $100.00 hub you'll also need?
If aluminum is bottom and enertia top, there is a lot of other props in between.
Mirage plus is a good prop, and usually a lot available used on line.

Just remembered something, the dealer won't let me quote, borrow over a weekend and bring back first of week with no questions!
Taking your advice I would borrow the 16!

          Thanks

Marine Connection, Ft Pierce has a Vengeance 17p at a good price, let me know if it would be too much pitch based on earlier posts.

vengeance is not my favorite prop, but it is the right pitch.
I would expect it to run very much like an aluminum 3 blade and you won't have to raise the motor.

Thanks, going to try an Enertia for a demo then decide!

Still thinking out loud, Ken, would you have available a 17p Mirage plus in stock, they show around 673.00 vs 844.00 for an Enertia.
if you have any info I love to purchase from you.

I've still not borrowed the Enertia from dealer yet.

                      Thanks

no Mirage's, I haven't seen those since June of 2019
probably a lot of them around used. it was a super popular prop, but hard to find a new one.

                          Thanks Ken!

I'm going to start searching for a used Mirage plus, my local prop shop can do miracles with props, Blair Propeller if anyone curious on the Treasure Coast, specifically Stuart, FL!

                          Wish me luck 🤞
