Hi all, I have a pair of 90A Suzukis that have not been started for around a year, both motors go through the standard start procedure, at key on (at the motor) all I hear is a short kind of dzz, the high pressure pump doesn’t appear to run (I assume it should) it also makes the same dzz at key off. Both motors turn over OK, but just don’t start, not even “kick” for a second. It seems unlikely both pumps would be dead at the same time, but……if the HP pump was dead, would the motor at least splutter? They both just wind over via the starter. Tried another tank with fresh fuel, still the same.

Depending on fuel (and water) a year is a long time.
IF they where shut down and had water in the fuel system (VST's) the pumps are done.
I, being me, would pull a VST and inspect the contents.
You, may want to apply 12v directly to the VST pump and see if you can hear it move (Turn on), maybe reverse polarity a time or two.
The dzz you hear is most the likely the Throttle Body.Engine Sales and Service

OK, the “dzz” certainly doesn’t sound like it’s coming from the pump, the fuel was good when it was last used, and I have used a seperate tank and fresh fuel with exactly the same result. I just kind of assumed/thought/hoped even if the pumps were dead it would at least give a kick. Removing the VST is simple enough, I will do that today, just for kicks, but, I will check for spark again (the only thing common to both motors is the cutout lanyard) because the motors are on a cat, there is two completely different systems, fuel, batteries, filters everything is seperate, except the cutout, but, I have disconnected it, though that doesn’t completely rule out a wiring issue. Thanks for your help, I definitely cannot hear the pump run at key on.Comment

OK, finally got a new HP pump, fitted it, simple job, motor runs like a dream, unfortunately only one pump arrived, has anyone had any luck with a “revived” pump?? I got one of the old ones running. Just looking at prices, you guys have got to good, a genuine pump here is $800, a decent after market is $300, a cheap as chips Chinese copy is $200 I see cheap ones in the US for $50. Couldn’t find a price for genuine Suzuki in the US. I wonder how long it would take to post one out/down here?Comment

Yep! I find that so hard to believe, no water in fuel, but, the boat did sit for around a year while I had other family stuff on. I tried to revive both of them, one I got kind of turning, but still useless. The second new one arrived yesterday, both motors now running, go figure! Best guess it’s a “feature” that they don’t like sitting for too long, I have never heard of that before in that time frame with clean fuel.👍 1Comment
