That building at the top of Sugar Mountain Ski Resort caused a furor when it was built. The result was a law that says it will not happen again.

For YEARS friends of mine have, bought summer homes, lived and said how nice the NC Mountains are, and I was like, why? Now I know.
Pretty country.
Funnily enough the rental "car" had Florida plates, then at the store I noticed ALOT more of them.
I do believe the secret is out, us Floridians is moving to NC.

Roan Mountain High Knob/Carver’s Gap is not to far from Banner Elk. The Rhododendron Garden starts to bloom this time of year. This is not Roan Mountain State Park on the TN side but at Carver’s Gap. At Carvers Gap is small parking lot. Across the road from that lot is Round Bald. It’s a short walk and part of the Appalachian Trail. It has stunning views as it is Mountain Bald. Lots of grass and small shrubs.
