  • Odd behavior on 6YC gauge and GPS speed via blu/wh wire input

I cannot for the life of me figure why I cannot see a consistent MPH/MPG number. I have it hooked to a Garmin plotter and only ONE nmea0183 sentence turned on:
    • RMC - recommended navigation data for gps

hmmm. RMC is the sentence Yamaha uses for speed, so that's right.
I assume you connected blue to ground and white to the Garmin Tx+

How about the Garmin port setting - is that set to "NMEA Std"?

Perhaps I'd better double check the ground. I am, however, 100% sure the blue is to ground, but I may have added the garmin tx- to the same ground as well.

Yes, its set to nmea standard.

I would do this, it's the way we do it and have never had an issue.

Were you ever able to figure out the cause ? I'm having the exact same issue with same unit ( 6YC ) connected to Garmin 7610 and getting GPS speed via external 19x. I have also turned OFF all of the output sentences except RMC. Mine is completely random and will work fine for a day and then MPH / MPG bounces all over the place other days. Man...I would love to figure this out. Drives me nuts to deal with this on a brand new boat.

Are either of you seeing the Time and "GPS" in the upper right hand corner?

Yes, I have GPS in showing there and it actually works perfect.... and then randomly it doesn’t. Someone told me to turn off all of the unnecessary output sentences from the Garmin, but Garmin doesn’t think that should matter. Some think it may be a ground issue, but everything looks good to me ? I wonder if it’s a software Garmin software issue. It started happening after an update, went away after next update and came back after recent 11.2 update, but it worked fine for half the day and starting acting up torwards the end of our fishing trip this weekend. I’m not sure if it’s the update or some sort of ground issue or Nema output sentences. Thanks for follow up. I’d love to figure this out.

Do you get a Garmin message on MFD, lost GPS signal?

I see GPS in the upper right corner; but, it doesn't display the time. I know from my old boat, if the blue and white wires aren't connected, I had nothing displayed there. Thoughts?
