YOU are a shooter for sure, seroiusly, but honestly, any variation @ 100-yards isn't gonna give the real story. I personally make no diagnostics from 100Y shooting and use 200Y as a miminum and then only for OCW load testing, Stretch the legs out to 600 to 1,000 and then maybe we'd see some verticals.

And yes - there's more ways to do it, and load or not loading bipods is different for different folks too,I just see a 'spring' component in that setup.

Anyways, it was "just a suggestIon" ...

No offence taken. I appreciate your "suggestions". You are way more experienced than I. FCW PB still hasn't opened there 200 yet. Next time at Tradecraft I'll put a paper target at 200 and see what it does.

  • That's some good shooting, Ole..
As of April 2nd, boatless for the first time in many years.

Maybe training?? I shot for the county rifle team when I was a young lad.. I enjoyed shooting very much. Iron sights.. Used to shoot pinecones out of the top of trees with my 22.. Got beat out in the "championship" by a girl.. That was 1979..

            7mm Rem Mag , it's the Accu-trigger , I've never checked it , I think it's as low as I can set it , but I could be wrong . A gunsmith I am not .

The gun is a Savage 110 Long Range Hunter in a XLR Carbon Fiber Chassis with a Nikon FX Black 1000 scope

        • I've been reading up on Snipers Hide . Are there any other sites worth checking out ?

            For?
Snipers Hide is at the top of the heap, depending on what Dung you are looking for.
Snipers Hide is TOS on steroids, but, it does have good Intel if you can wade through the gaggle of AssHats.

Says the AccuTrigger goes down to 1.5'#, which is low enough, if it's set there. If your is factory and not changed, I might guess it's above 4'#.
hat is the twist rate and what ammo are you shooting?

The rate of twist is 1 in 9.5 , and I think the trigger goes down to 2.5 . I'm shooting what I can find right now , today it was Hornady American Whitetail 139 grain ammo .
Savage recommends the Federal Premium 150 grain ammo , but I can't find it , at least not in a a price I want to spend .
I shoot the Hornady ELD bullet in 162 grain , it seems to shoot better , but it's crazy expensive .

I'm thinking about getting into hand loading , what are your thoughts about hand loads ?

I'm basically trying to learn a routine , working on my breathing , loading the bipod , everything really . All I've ever done is hunt , and range time was pretty much sighting in and getting a feel for the gun .
A friend talked me into buying this chassis , he wanted to get in to long range shooting , but they moved to NC , so I kinda just put it on hold .

                  • I checked my trigger , it's as low as it will go , which is 2.5 on the hunter guns . The varmint guns will adjust down to 1.5 . I could switch springs if you thought it would help ?

                    • Expensive is relative.
I have done some handloading with a friend. (I'll get back to that in a minute).
I would ready up what grain works best with that twist.
                      i run a 140eldm through a 1:8 twist. It works well.
Your gun is a slower twist. Lighter grs may not be good.
                      Back to expensive is relative.
Hand loading is REALLY expensive. By the time you buy the tools. Powered. Bullits. Brass. And TIME.
You can but a lot of ammo.
Sorta like hustings 65k of four strokes to replace two strokes.
For now find some Hornady or Berger that works. Stay ahead of it and try and buy it by case of the same lot.
2.5:# is not bad. I don't think its that.

I was at the Pawn/Gun Shop today picking up a few 30 round mags, ammo, etc and I saw zip lock bags of 5.56 & other brass for $25 a bag. No idea how many were in each bag. Also lots of reloading tools and thought that must really be expensive to do. I suppose consistency and personal preference for competition shooting are very advantageous in reloading
