We used to have one a long time ago. The main issue we had was my wife hair would get into the rotating brush and bind it up. I would have to take it apart evrytime and clean her hair out of it. Not a big deal but still sucked. I am sure they have figured that out on the newer models.

Yeah we had one years ago, not much use for carpet IMO as it only picks up stuff on the surface. We had one that mopped the floor too, problem there was I'd sit and watch it go around (strangely entertaining) which defeats it's purpose.

This will be on hardwood and tile, with most being hardwood.
Does it go around the whole floor it is situated on, or are there limits where it goes—say only one room?
I’ll program it to operate during day when fewer occupants are home.

My Mom will be living there too w/ daytime custodial care but she’s in a wheelchair with zero mobility.

We’ve had one since Christmas and love it. Wife runs it every day. Mostly hardwood floor, some tile, one carpeted barroom, just does the downstairs floor. We have 2 labs. Initially it had to be emptied like 3 times for one complete vacuum. Now it goes 2-3 iterations before emptying. And it a big area, has to recharge twice to get it all done. It does leave occasional clumps of dog hair around, so a real vaccuming maybe every other week still required, but overall floors are much much cleaner since we got it which is key in protecting hardwood floors.

It should keep on going through different rooms until it needs a recharge, then it will go back to it's charging station. You can get sensors to stop it going in certain areas if you wish, or to stop it falling down steps or stairs.
I think it will be good for your use.

I think we have 4 or 5. Love them. I have 2 at the river cabin plus a Brava mopper robot. Works great.

My wife LOVES hers.. It even has an attachment that lets it mop the floor.. Only issue is, if you have a pet, you will need to empty the hopper frequently. But it works and works well.. We have one that we bought from Amazon on deal of the day..
