I don't know if there is more than one strand or not. The first I heard of it was a few years ago when a couple cases were reported. These cases came from N. Ga. and mountain streams or ponds were involved. Now all I am reading about are from saltwater or brackish water. Also have read it can be in beach sand. Is there really a way to live and be totally safe from it?

The video in the link I provided actually talks about that very same thing.. The doctor they had on there said there are MANY strains of it. The most prevalent being Strep A.. The article was about a healthy 56 year old male that never got in the water and had NO cuts or open wounds.. His wife did say that his hat blew into the water.. I would assume that is where it entered into his system??? He sought medical care within hours.. They put him right in ICU and started treating him for Vibrio.. Wasn't enough..

                    It really is crazy
Saw where Pt Clear had 100,000 gallon overflow that ran into Bay. Add that to previous totals.
You know, water in Bay was never this bad when they blamed all the chemical plants up the river.

I found this interesting; "Necrotizing fasciitis is a bacterial infection that spreads quickly in the body and can lead to sepsis, shock and organ failure, according to the Centers for Disease Control. It typically enters the body through cuts and scrapes, burns, insect bites, puncture wounds, and injuries that don’t break the skin."

                          Another
                          Curious what’s up with this?
Has it always been this prevalent and just not reported on?
Literally wonder if there’s something new going on in water?

It's always been around.. However, when there is severe flooding and the rivers are jacking with the salinity of the Gulf, it get's worse.. I remember growing up, every now and then you would hear about someone getting "pinched" by a blue crab and this happening.. Fisherman, etc... I think it is a combination of both.. But really more reported.. According to the CDC, the historical data suggests it has NOT gotten worse..
