I Only read the op, what he says makes a certain amount of sense. That said I'm sure it takes a left turn and they bash away.
Organized religion has its worts for sure,, but there's still a place for it.

1 Corinthians 1:18
“The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are headed for destruction.” NLT
You cannot expect folks who do not believe in the Word of God to understand His commandments, Love and redemptive plan.
When it comes to discussing holy things...Matthew 7:6
“Do not waste what is holy on people who are unholy. Don’t throw your pearls to pigs. They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you”. NLT
You cannot reason into belief what has been given as a gift, through revelation from the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 2: 8-9
For by grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God. Not by works, lest any man should boast. KJV
It has been a relief to me to have this forum where I'm able to express my Christianity and conservative views. I know I'm terribly flawed...that's the basis of my religion. I need help, and have found it (it found me). Christians need help and have no business picking on others, and we know that happens at times. Whatever. I'm glad to be here...warts and all. Ed

Thank you for saying that.
just spent all day with a daughter in tears…
we are not religious.
The mother of her new boyfriend just made him break up with her - because she isn’t Christian. The mom said my daughter is not to be trusted, will have loose or no morals and is probably a slut.
This has happened twice in the past, starting when she was 13 years old and went on he first date. That mother didn’t say probably, she just said the words slut.
Nasty, flat out nasty people, and they are using their religion as justification. Try to have a conversation with them- no matter, my words come from the devil.
We do a bunch of damage control with our kids - the things people say and the judgment they pass can be devastating to a child.
I had a man that I had just met say that the tattoos on my arm mean that I have demons inside me. I laughed and said that I don't feel like I have any demons inside me. He then proceeds to tell me that he has exercised demons out of people and that he has a man in New Jersey that they were able to remove 80,000 demons from. I was loving where this was going so I debated him for about 20 minutes to see if he could provide me the answers I need about " GOD". He came up short . I respect religion but don't buy into it .
Surfer - I do my best to respect everyone’s beliefs… but it’s been getting difficult lately. We home school the kids, the community is typically very religious… the things that are said can be mind boggling.
And the things are not said to our faces. The parents say it to their kids - and the kids either tell us or tell our kids. But the parents are nice as pie to us in person.
sad this happens, it’s making me suspicious of many people.
In my eyes, that type of behavior goes against everything they should be doing.
Summed it up in one word to my wife this evening - disappointing.
I understand Jughed's position. I was raised in the church (Southern Baptist), and quit going as soon as I left home at 17. The character (saving me a lot of nouns here) of the members made me question whether their supposed indwelling by the Holy Spirit had any meaning at all. I sure couldn't find any evidence.
Years later, with kids of my own, I tried to find a church, thinking it would be good for me, and give my kids exposure to teaching about God. Once again, all I found were hypocrites. Yeah, I know we're all sinners, and fall short, etc., but I'm not talking about mistakes and slips. I encountered the slimiest bunch of dirtballs ever, using their churchiness not as a cleaning agent, but as camouflage for personalities at least as corrupt as the average heathen. Attending church actually interfered with my attempts to apprehend God; after a while (I gave it about four years), the pettiness and bullshit became impossible to ignore.
Churchy people sometimes hit me with the "forsake not the gathering" line. Fact is, I "sharpen" myself better on regular people, Christian and otherwise, than I ever did in church. I love God, but I stay far from churches. One of the reasons I enjoy religious discussion and reading - I learn a lot, mostly from regular folks like on here.
Jughed, look at the bright side: your daughter's experiences, while hurtful, may have saved you from having low-IQ grandchildren. "The mom said my daughter is not to be trusted, will have loose or no morals and is probably a slut." - probably exactly what the young man was looking for!😄
Im am atheist.
I don’t turn my nose down, or judge non-believers because they don’t beleive.
conversely, I don’t do it towards extremely religious folks, moderately or slightly religious folks
I base my thoughts on individuals
and their actions and words.
In my life I’ve found less hypocrites, less judgemental, less hate and more tolerance from the “churchies”
thats my life experiences and my $2/100 on the matter
I was raised in a Christian Skool, that gave me enough religion for a lifetime, however, I don't bequeath people whom believe, certainly don't care if they talk about it, around me or too me, if it gets too much, I leave.
I was raised non political, only really got that way when Obummer ran. I lean to the right, my family far left. And some friends, far left, I don't care, it's family and friends, I turn a deft ear. (the right one) and carry on. Not worth losing friends and family over.
I am a drunk. When I quit drinking the other drunks didn't like me because I was a "Quitter" and the non drinkers didn't like me because I wasn't in counseling and was going to fail. To this day, I still refer to myself as a drunk, not a reformed alcoholic, because the "people" say there is no such thing, gotta stay with what "the people" believe in.
I guess I am just a loser----. :-)
Y’all know I was a fireman for a long time. I went on many calls during those years to rescue folks that were in trouble and would perish otherwise. They were not able to help themselves, so they dialed 911 and I came to the rescue.
That is how I feel about God. I was in trouble and going to die and I could not help myself. I called the Holy 911 number and He came to my rescue. I am eternally grateful and want to spend time with the One who saved me and get to know Him better. I read the instruction book He left behind, which describes His past handiwork, His present plan and future promises. I believe it by faith, through grace and confidence in what He has already done. I start my day reading His book and a time of fellowship. I believe He stands in the center of and reigns over all things.
I believe TOS (the other schmuck), Satan, wants to mock and ruin everything God has created; including His most prized creation, man. He lies, confuses, steals and tries to destroy us. He is very good at it. Been doing it a long time. He has a default number also. You call, and he will come to you also...but for a devastatingly different reason and result. He can make you rich, famous, popular.and put you in the drivers seat of a fast car that will take you, in classic luxury, to a dead-end road of eternal misery, where he will be waiting. The Road is wide, plentiful, easy, well paved and full of other travelers...but don’t take this road. Take the narrow road. The One less traveled, with mountainous terrain, pitfall and precipices. The difficult road will one day be a street of gold, lined with mansions and precious treasure awaiting.
Keep your eyes on Him. Dial that 911 number any time. He will come to the rescue. He promises. I can confirm His reliability.
And remember....the call is free...but it will cost you everything now.
If you choose not to call, a call will be made for you. . It’s also free....but will cost you everything later. It’s the default plan we all have.
