  • Thanks guys for the warm welcome and the thoughts. I don't know how to sail anything bigger than Hobie anyway but I feel up for the challenge anyway. I imagine a chartering niche can be rewarding otherwise people wouldn't do it. My sea time is good as I'm a power boat owner so the OUPV and masters are in reach. Glad to be here. Any good hurricane threads here?

      • Yeah, hurricane storm type. How does insurance work if you cant pull a 45' sailing catamaran out of the water?

Well, I think that is policy dependent.. I know my insurance pays for hauling out service in the event of a names storm.. However, in the case of a vessel too large to haul out, I would assume you just have to do due diligence to protect the vessel. But, again, I would think that it is up to your individual policy..

In Miami, the insurance company will want you to have a written hurricane plan.
That will include for what you plan to do with the boat for hurricane prep, either a safety harbor or a haul out.
Catamarans do not do well at anchor in a storm, after about 75mph, they tend to go airborn which doesn't work out for anyone (See VI Hurricane two years ago).
So, either get a hurricane storage contract at a yard going, haul out or haul ass.

                              • Hello Everyone!

Glad I found the site. Got myself banned from the bilge on that other site and decided it was time for a change. The main mod over there really doesn’t like the conservative way of thinking. Final straw was my fault and knew it would get me a time out just didn’t realize it would be permanent. It was all in fun but some get pretty emotional. Life is too short to hang out with energy pirates. I am a Florida native born and raised in Jupiter, Fl now living in Martin County. A little more:
My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with a low-grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen-year-old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds, pretty standard really. At the age of twelve I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Wilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum... it's breathtaking I suggest you try it.
Look forward to virtually meeting everyone!
