  • Navigation lights, assistance needed please.

Man Ive read Rule 30, 23, etc etc on the net and trawler forums. I understand the Nav lights regarding boat size. But I have found a Masthead light which appears to be the correct variety (if it works) it is mounted at the leading edge of the T Top. The T top roof material is very thin, the PO added a piece of starboard (of course he did, lol) under the ight mounting plate, and larger fender washers under the thin roof. The light flexes due to the thin roof flexing. I want to move the light back about 2ft, where this is a mounting plate for a Radar device. not being used. And the light itself can be layed flat for clearance, but its pretty much even with the rocket launchers on the T framework.
The light itself has the front wide angle, and 2 rear angled lenses/bulbs to make up the rest of the 360 degrees, for anchoring. So Im thinking this is a steaming/underway anchor combo. I haven`t checked yet if it was 2 or 3 wire... then that changes things.

this all started bc I have a new Stern pole light and socket, but I`m aware that the anchor light needs to be at the highest point ...

a bit confused with all the late night reading...

what say you s? I should know this, and I inherited all my fathers Books, charts, Logs, Coastie info, power squadron stuff, but its all put away.
I just want to be legal in case I`m out after dark. TIA

ok, it appears to be an Atwood light. if it does work, I`d like to move it back on that mounting pad on the T top frame which is approx 2ft rearward.
If it works I`ll replace the wire.

That light has 2 separate white lights.
underway only the aft light is lit.
at anchor both lights are lit.

Yes, I see that. Where it is mounted is very thin and IMHO not mounted correctly, I just want to move it back.
I do not know yet if they disabled the rear transom socket for a pole light. The socket is shot and I have a new assy if needed.

you can move the light aft keeping it on the centerline.
light needs to be 360 deg unobstructed view in anchor mode.
for your size boat you would not need another white stern light.

This LEGO T top really is crap, what was I thinking. The PO spent the coin on eisenglass enclosure, so thats what I focused on, but otherwise, this Top is all hacked up to fit, why would they pull the original T top off the boat, doesnt make any sense...

No one light does it all.
                Nav under power and anchor.
Not that I am aware of.

agreed, light we're talking about is used in combination with fwd red/ green underway.
only exception i'm aware of is a very small boat without permanently installed lights used as a tender between a mooring area and shore, than a single handheld flashlight can be used.

Not the way I read the OP:s first post.
I see him describe a saily boat mast light.
While it may work for a sailynote on a mast (under sail) Both boats still need a steaming light under power.

hence the rules that apply to the size of the boat. which I understand now and which light(s) are correct
The pictures in above post is what was installed on the T Top. which by label is a Masthead light.
                  Sorry for the confusion Ole.

ok, made up a wire harness to reach the helm switches. kept it simple on the install and had this starboard puck from a drilled hole.
                I`m satisfied...
now to patch the roof , for another time.
