Chicago's Dem Mayor Brandon Johnson now wants to create city-run grocery stores to promote 'equitable' access to food after Walmart and Whole Foods close stores

Hmm, what will go wrong here?

Maybe the Mayor, and all those who think this is a good idea should just put some of their own money together, and sign leases on the buildings owned by Walmart and Whole Foods. They are already set up for grocery stores, and they could be up and running in no time.

Sure.. Why not? They will just up the taxes on the poor schmucks who own property in Chicago. And, after a year or two, and multiple shootings and theft out the wazoo, they'll close it. Claim racism, but keep the taxes they are pulling in for the stores.

And, no one can complain. They voted for the dude. Overwhelmingly. Another tragedy in this country. Like many cities in Michigan, Chicago is just about gone past the "point of no return".
As of April 2nd, boatless for the first time in many years.

So true!! My Dad/his siblings grew up in East Chicago and we lived there for a few years too.
I’ve been to a few conferences there including Chicago Auto Show at McCormick Center.
Fifteen years ago you could walk the Magnificent Mile during the day with hardly any concern at all.
Nowadays, NO WAY!! At least for me

Don't know for certain but Erie Skipper still may go to boat show at McCormick Center—assuming they still have it?
            Maybe he will chime in

We have been many times. The city is definitely different. During the day light hours, its mostly "okay".. However, at night, it gets a little sketchy if you get off the beaten path.

For instance, Paula and I wouldn't hesitate to walk to Millennium Park, to see the Bean, or Grant Park to see the fountain, at night. Have done it many times. When we were there in July, we didn't dare. There are a lot more homeless people on the streets and they can get aggressive. They also use Public Transit as their hotel. Law and Order is definitely slipping away. For the life of me, I can't understand what they think will be the outcome allowing this stuff.

We went into Water Tower Mall and was shocked at the empty stores. Places that just closed shop. Same for Bloomingdales (900 North Michigan). They are going to let the riff raff destroy that city. Really sad.

Then they will rework it all into a fifteen-minute city, all owned by the city or a selected few and repopulate .
