I spent over 3 hours trying to raise this fish yesterday but just wasn’t meant to be. It’s like she was down there digesting all the 40lb tunas she had been eating. We saw the fish when we first got to the spot and had it come by the boat when we were fighting a tuna. Next time.

we got 8 of these nice fish before trying to raise the blue.

Nice! There’s a bunch of fantastic eating in that cooler!

  • Had a snapper hit just off the bottom in 1300ft yesterday so dropped down a whole filet on the next drop.

We also fish from 450 out to 1800 so so as long as the snapper chew the heavy stuff then I can be confident in our rigs holding up if and when we hook solid fish.

Is the entire reel mono or are you using braid to mono to a certain point?

It’s all 130lb braid to a 150 or 200lb wind on leader to the swivel. We use our old trolling wind ons for deep dropping. It gives us a heads up when the fish is close because I can’t see the counter on the reels all that often

  • Last night was a good session

      Nice haul!

Some folks won’t eat the skippies
      They are pretty damn good

I don’t mind the skippies raw if they are bled well and go straight into a salt ice slurry.

      Yep
      That’s what we do

  • Some more good deep dropping and spearing today. Had a pretty interesting run in with a big pissed off shark who got my hogfish but luckily I have all my fingers and toes still

    • Generator issues today so I stayed back on the big boat while the boys went out to spear in some pretty challenging conditions. Plus I was destroyed after 8 hours in the water yesterday. They pinged a few lobster and a few smaller grouper but this one took the cake. Big old Nassau. That’s a 110 yeti for reference!

Offshore again tomorrow once we park the viking up in the Marina. Boss man said he has meetings all afternoon “but you guys go catch me some tuna to take to my friends in London”.

        Can’t say no to that!

    • Got to take the good days with the bad. We fished really hard today and saw two billfish and missed them both. Saw big yellowfin but only got 2 skipjack.

      Windy day fixing boats tomorrow

        • First fish I have raised on my boat, the snapper. Went out inshore fishing with my brother and nephew. We used shrimp and a commercial guy gave us about 2 dozen mullet at the dock. We caught a few small snapper. But we had a good time. Next time we’ll head to Ft. Pierce.

Anyone know the kind of fish with the spoon?
